Back in the day the Military Industrial Complex didn’t have a clue about injection molding.
Soooo, as any good company that didn’t have a skillset (or production facilities) to make them and a LARGE government contract, they sub-contracted out for those parts to a company with the skills and equipment.
Now imagine yourself as a grunt in Vietnam in the 1960’s and you’re getting a new, toy looking, plastic rifle .. with the Mattel {It’s SWELL} symbol molded into the the buttstock…. 😉
